    Thomas Schubert Teacher
Added an answer on March 5, 2023 at 11:07 am

If turning the car on/off won't fix this then try buckling and unbuckling the seatbelt in your 2001 Dodge Dakota 3 times - apparently a common fix across various car manufacturers

A common issue with diesel engines is that they don’t get run on long enough journeys to clean out the DPF, a very expensive part to fit. Some owners of diesel engine cars recommend keeping the revs high for a while on longer journeys – as the heat caused by this will activate the DPF  cleaning cycle and fix this problem for you.

According to the 2000 Nissan Xterra page on OilType: https://oiltype.co/cars/nissan/xterra/2000/ You will need at a maximum 3.8-liters of oil (for the non-turbo 3.3-liter engine) and according to the owner's manual Nissan recommends using synthetic oil.
